At our shops
Here's an honest snapshot of physical accessibility at each location. If anything below would be a barrier for you, please reach out - we're glad to set out a ramp, bring service to the curb, or work with you over email or phone instead.
Bushwick - 321 Starr St, Suite E:
- Ground-floor entrance with a single small step, about 4 inches. A portable ramp is available on request - just call ahead at 833.FILMLAB.
- Aisles are at least 36 inches wide and the counter is approachable from a seated position.
- One accessible restroom on the ground floor.
- Service animals are welcome at both locations.
- Curbside drop-off and pickup available - call when you arrive and we'll meet you outside.
Williamsburg - 185 Broadway:
- Step-free, ground-floor entrance directly off Broadway.
- Open shop floor with wide aisles.
- No on-site restroom currently - the closest accessible options are at the Marcy Ave subway station and several nearby businesses.
- Curbside drop-off available during open hours.

On this website
We design and build this site with accessibility in mind. Specifically:
- Semantic HTML, descriptive page titles, and a logical heading order on every page.
- Alt text on functional images. Decorative images are marked as such for screen readers.
- Keyboard-accessible navigation: every interactive element is reachable and usable without a mouse.
- Color contrast of at least 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text and UI elements, meeting WCAG AA.
- Focus indicators that are visible when navigating by keyboard.
- Forms with associated labels, helpful error messages, and clear required-field markers.
- Respect for the user's prefers-reduced-motion setting for animated content.
- Responsive layouts that work at 200% zoom and across screen sizes from phone to desktop.
We test with screen readers (VoiceOver and NVDA), keyboard-only navigation, and automated scanning tools as part of our build process. We don't rely on automated tools alone - they catch maybe 30% of real issues.

Known gaps we're working on
We try to be honest about where we're not yet where we want to be:
- Some older PDFs available for download, such as wholesale price sheets, aren't fully tagged for screen readers. We're working through them.
- Our order builder is complex; it currently passes WCAG AA on individual fields, but the overall flow could be smoother for screen-reader users. Improvements are coming throughout 2026.
- Spanish-language versions of key pages are in progress. In the meantime, the site works well with browser translation.

How to request an accommodation
For physical shop access, drop us a line ahead of your visit and we'll prepare:
- Call 833.FILMLAB during shop hours.
- Email hello@nycfilmlab.com.
- Service over email or phone is available for any part of an order - we don't require an in-person visit for anything.

Reporting a barrier
If you encountered something on this site or at one of our shops that wasn't accessible to you, please let us know. We treat these reports as priorities and aim to respond within two business days. We'd much rather know than not.
