How renting works.
We rent some of the best film cameras in two-week increments - a fraction of the cost of buying, with everything you need to start shooting. Please read this before you rent.
The Concept
Two weeks, all-in.
We rent in a minimum of two-week increments - a window that keeps the cost far below buying, and often below renting from a local shop. A lot of this gear is hard to find at a rental shop to begin with.
Rental periods are inclusive of shipping time in both directions, which is already factored into the price. Cameras work out to less than $2 per day on the low end and around $30 per day on the high end.
A note on the single two-week period: it exists mainly for scheduling flexibility and is not usually recommended on its own. Most renters who book a single period end up wanting to extend - which is not always possible if someone else has reserved the next window. If you need the camera near the very start or end of your dates, it is almost always a better value to book an extra period and take advantage of the long-term rate.
The Process
Four steps, start to finish.
We know it is a lot - but it is important you read and understand this before renting.
One
Choose a camera & dates
Rental periods include shipping. Kits arrive roughly 1-6 business days after your start date depending on your location and the speed you pick at checkout. Use the same shipping speed for both directions, and avoid any option marked "Products Only." Shipping dates are never guaranteed, so leave room.
Two
Pay the deposit
Deposits are based on the gear's value and listed on each kit's page. They are mandatory, fully refundable, and due at least three days before your start date so your order is not delayed. We also accept a certificate of insurance in lieu of a full deposit (a deposit equal to your deductible, or $150, whichever is greater, still applies).
Three
Start your rental
We ship on the first day of your rental period, or the next business day if it falls on a weekend. You will usually have the gear within 1-5 business days - sooner if you are nearby or chose expedited shipping. Then take all the pictures.
Four
End your rental
All shipping is fully insured. Pack the kit, photograph its condition, and send it back up to five days before your period ends. If the kit returns on time and in good condition, we refund your deposit within about a week.
Timing
If a shipment runs late.
Shipping times are not guaranteed, and a previous renter may occasionally return a kit slightly late. We are a small service and cannot guarantee availability by a specific date, and your reservation confirms acceptance of these terms.
We do want you to get real use out of every rental, so we prorate any days lost after the fifth business day past your intended start date (shipping costs excluded). Cancellations and full refunds are not possible once a rental is underway, even if the kit arrives later than hoped. If you need guaranteed dates, clear it with us first - most people who need a firm start date book the preceding period too, to leave room for shipping inconsistencies. Rentals are not extended for weekends or holidays, so plan your dates accordingly.
A Note on Deposits
Document the kit before you ship it back.
Normal wear over the years is expected - light seals, shutters reaching the end of their life, and so on. But if a camera comes back abused, we reserve the right to withhold funds up to the cost of repair or replacement. Cosmetic damage that cannot be rubbed out, or signs of extreme dust or dirt, may incur incremental fees.
For your own protection, document the condition of your kit before shipping: photograph it at the shipping point and take a short video of the shutter firing. You do not need to send this to us, but it is what protects you if there is ever a claim. Deposits for damaged items take longer to process while the gear is assessed.
