How renting works.
Choose from the rental periods and prices currently offered for each camera kit at NYC Film Lab. Please read this before you rent.
The Concept
Choose the period that fits.
Rental durations and prices are set for each kit at this location. The camera catalog and availability screen show the current options for the dates you select.
Choose a start date, then select one of the available durations for that camera. A duration or price shown for another kit or location does not apply unless it also appears in your checkout.
Fulfillment is location-specific too. Pickup is available only when listed, and shipping appears as a choice only when NYC Film Lab has enabled it for that kit. Use the dates and return instructions in your confirmed reservation.
The Process
Four steps, start to finish.
We know it is a lot - but it is important you read and understand this before renting.
One
Choose a camera & dates
Select NYC Film Lab, an available start date, and one of the durations currently listed for the kit. Checkout shows only the pickup or shipping options available for that reservation.
Two
Pay the rental & deposit
Square collects the rental fee and refundable deposit together at checkout as separate order lines. The deposit amount shown in checkout is the amount required for that kit; contact us before paying if you want us to review a certificate of insurance.
Three
Start your rental
Follow the pickup instructions in your confirmation. If shipping was offered and selected, follow the shipment updates instead; timing and carrier details are provided for that reservation and are not guaranteed by this overview.
Four
End your rental
Return the complete kit by the listed end date using the method in your confirmation. After an on-time return and inspection, the refundable deposit is reconciled to the original Square payment.
Timing
Plan around your selected fulfillment.
Availability is calculated from the selected start date and duration, but a prior renter or an unexpected service issue can still affect handoff timing. Your confirmation is the source of truth for the reservation, fulfillment method, and return date.
If shipping is not displayed for the selected kit, plan to pick up and return it at NYC Film Lab. When shipping is displayed and selected, allow transit time and do not treat an estimated delivery date as guaranteed. Contact us before booking if the camera is needed for an immovable production date.
A Note on Deposits
Document the kit before you return it.
Normal wear over the years is expected - light seals, shutters reaching the end of their life, and so on. But if a camera comes back abused, we reserve the right to withhold funds up to the cost of repair or replacement. Cosmetic damage that cannot be rubbed out, or signs of extreme dust or dirt, may incur incremental fees.
For your own protection, document the condition of your kit before returning it: photograph the packed kit and take a short video of the shutter firing. You do not need to send this to us unless requested, but it can help if there is ever a condition claim. Deposits for damaged items take longer to process while the gear is assessed.
